Two bulbs for front dome light

I just received a front dome light for my 1984 190d today. It has a small light & a larger light - mine has only one light. When I plug in the wires (they were out of order when I got her) I only get the small light. Also, opening & closing the door has not effect on the light. I was wondering if maybe the wires might be pluged in wrong. Thanks.
