Feeler: Thinking of selling my 98 E300

I havn't been driving it much lately.. thinking of putting it up for sale. She's got nearly 252,000 miles.. I bought it earlier this year (March 05) in Memphis with 227,000.. drove it home. I have all service records since new, I'm the 2nd owner.

It runs fantastic. Uses ZERO oil. Has a cleaned intake and EGR. Newer front pads. New inner tie rods. Brand new Yokohama tires (around 1,000 miles). I just had the entire car professionally buffed, waxed and a back door repainted because of a deep scratch. Also had a thin red and grey pinstripe put on.. looks amazing. Every power option works as it should, including A/C and climate control. No accidents ever.

It does have some injector knock, may need injector service but there are no issues on how it runs because of this. The trans has a slight flare from 2-3 when fully warmed up. All other gears are fine. It has been like this since I bought it (was not disclosed to me when I purchased it sight-unseen) and has not changed one bit. I've debated having the trans rebuilt by an MB master tech, but the problem is simply not bad enough to justify a $2000 repair bill, IMO. I had the trans serviced at the local MB dealer.. did not change anything.

Southern car all it's life, absolutely no rust. I don't have to sell it, and I'm not even sure if I want to.. just putting out a feeler. Any interest?

What are you thinking you'd like to get for it?

Ever solve the the front end problem?

A average mileage example would be around $20,000.. what's this one worth?

Yes, it was the inner tie rods.

Their was just a 98 in the local paper for $18k with 75k miles on it. I would guess $10k-$14k.

I don't know I was just looking at Autotrader.com and I can get 100k E430's for $11k, or 70k mile E320's.

I don't know if I want a newer MB.

Your feeler caught my attention because I know the car and it is nice.

Probably not a bad idea to stick it on eBay if you have $50 to burn for the listing. I know a guy who put up his 1990 BMW on eBay with an outrageous reserve and surprisingly the reserve was met and he sold it for much more than felt it was worth.

$20K is what a dealer might get for one and it would have substantially fewer miles than 250K on it for that price, probably 100K or so. A car with 250K miles is probably worth about 50-60% of that, IMHO, but ebay is as good a way as any to find out. I would guess it would bring $11,000 on ebay.

My "southern" '98 E300 DT has half that many miles and I would take $16K in a NY minute for it.

Might be interesting to have a pool on it to see who's guess is closest if you do ebay it?

Were you at the meet and greet this past fall in NJ with the black 300D Turbo diesel? If so, nice car. I say your best bet is to put it on E-bay.

I just bought one with really low miles at a great price - with someone elses eyes and I did not drive it. I just thought I would go for it. What is it about yours that does not motivate you to keep it?

I have kind of steered clear of the newer ones because of what I have heard about reliability issues but I just decided to go for it on this one. I know someone will want it if I do not and the price was too good.

I guess I will see for myself, hopefully at the end of the week.

I just re-read your post. Still doesn't mean I can't make the same prediction.
