Hard to start back up
My car dosen't like to start back up if it's been less than about 15min since I shut it down. I have to hold the starter down for about 10 sec, and it slowly winds up. My friend tells me that that's the case with all these cars. Is that so, or is there somethin wrong with it? Is it bad to force it to start back up when it's dosen't want to?

It sounds like glow plugs..
Does the glow plug light come on? if it does, and still doesn't start easy then check the plugs. even if 2 of 5 are bad it should at least "cough" I had the same problem and I had 4 of 5 plugs bad.. Hope that helps some...

also could be bad ground
on starter. check bat to frame, engine to frame and if still not sure run a jumper from neg to a starter bolt.
lots of innocent starters were changed cause of bad grounds! tom w

Even though we dont know what car you have, I doubt thats the case with all of them. Sounds like you need a new starter. Like Tom said, check the grounds and clean your battery terminals (sand paper, wire brush) first.

This happens @ normal operating temp? (or close to it?) then its not the glow plugs.
Heat soak is the issue, a connection that is adequate @ room temperature is not gonna handle the amps @ higher temps. I agree w/ T.W. Check/clean your grounds/connections. If everything checks out I'd take a hard look @ the solonoid, followed by load testing the battery, then finally the starter.

at very high and very low
temperatures the resistance for electricity traveling thru wire and such increases. so if anything is marginal, in extreme temps, they will fail.
ask the auto stores when they sell the most batteries. hot and cold weather. and as noted above under heat soak conditions. tom w
