Question RPM vs Speed

Just trying to get a feel for the car.

In driving on the freeway at 70mph it turns 3k rpm. Does this sound like the right range? I have not had the car over 80mph yet.

Also the car seems like it shifts to high gear way too soon, and I have to shift down to 3rd when accelerating to stay in the 2.5k turbo powerband, is there a way to delay the automatic upshift?

Thanks to the help of this board, I've been self sufficient with my new to me car so far. THANKS!!!

3000rpm sounds about right, 2.88:1 gears?

If the upshift is too soon at full throttle, you might need to adjust the downshift cable "bowden cable". Also, if your car has the downshift button under the loud-pedal, be sure you're pushing enough to make this switch when you are attempting to force an automatic downshift.

About right

I cruise to work at 75 and hover at 3100rpm. No problamo. If you look on your spedo gauge, you'll see 3 small yellow dots at the 70 to 75 range, it's like they are telling you to cruise at that speed

My 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ40) might go that fast if I tied some rockets to its rear end

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm cruising at the correct rpm, and I need to check that switch and possible adjust the cable.

Also make sure you have your ALDA tweaked properly...before I did mine (and the few other mods since then ) I used to think it shifted way to early or this and that....

...turns out when its not making good power that it will feel like an "early" shift becuase the shifts points are partly based on pedal position
