On mine its, driver side above the axle. You should see two up there coming out of the tank, ones a little bigger and I think thats the vevt, other ones the return.

Yes there are 3 fuel line coming out of the tank. One of them is your vent line.

Correct. Make sure you keep the vent clean. I found out the hard way on my 240D. The car would not start one day, no fuel delivery, removed the fuel cap, heard a loud woosh. Primed the injection pump, started up. Cleaned the vent, no problems since. Did the same on my 300D as PM. Alan

Its a good idea to check out those two on the drivers side, cause when they leak, diesel drips right on your axle boot , not a good thing

Thanks for the replies . Is there a check valve in the line so I need to use compressed air or can I use a coat hanger to ream out the line? I cannot get 300 miles out of a tank yet. I am not sure if this is the culprit or not but I am getting the whoosh when removing the fuel filler cap

There is a little pressure + vacuum valve at the end of the tube with a dirt boot over the opening. Pressure release is around 200 millibar and vacuum release is 800mb.
