240D cold start problems

my 79 240D has a factory rebuilt eng with 85K. has been great and always started, till now........ replaced glow plugs and fuse, fuel filters. will start and run fine with a shot of ether and when warmed up, but not when cold. is there a GP relay on this car or just the fuse on the fire wall? could it be the injection pump? woould not think so since it runs fine after ether spray. I appreciate any replies!!!!!!! Thanks!
