Question '91 350SD runs pretty warm in Las Vegas Summer Heat...

My '91 350SD runs a bit warm here in the Las Vegas summer heat - daily ambient temps of well over 100F - especially in stop-&-go traffic. Out on the freeway it stays around 90C, but in city traffic it will sometimes get pretty high on the gauge, probably aroun 115C - especially after a LONG day of driving all over town.

By the way, what are the specific temperatures of the markings on my gauge??? I have been trying to find out myself, but cannot find any specific info regarding what exact temps the marks on the gauge mean. Can anybody out there fill me in, PLEASE??? Sorry for my ignorance - I'm new to MB and new to Diesel, but I'm soaking up info here like a sponge, so lay it on me!!

At 115C I'd be pulling over and blasting the heat. Thats very close to the danger zone, the AC compressor should be dumped around there.

Sounds like its time for a bit of cooling system work.

Okay - I'm certainly open to that, but what would you recommend? I just had the radiator flushed and refilled, but they used the green stuff (after I specifically asked for Zerex G-05, darnit!). I drove the car again today and the temperature only went slightly over 100C, but it has been up to 115C before. When I picked it up from the mechanic, I let it idle in the parking lot for about 20 minutes - maybe that's where the heat built up???

Let me know where to start and I'll start getting it worked out. Thanks!

My 84 300D used to settle between 60 and 80, but I was pretty sure the T stat was stuck open. I had it replaced, and now in a very hot summer it runs at 100 on the dot no matter what is happenning. It seemed a little high to me, but I'm waiting for cooler temps to see what happens. At least myt heat will work in the winter, I can't wait!
