I have a 1982 300SD with a 4 speed automatic transmission. I have had the car for a little over 2 years with no transmission problems, no slippage or anything out of the ordinary. Last week I was stopped at a stop sign and waited for traffic to clear, when it was safe to go, I stepped on the accelerator and I felt like something in the transmission let go, like a little pop, hardly noticeable, and I had no more forward gears. I still have reverse, but no forward gears whatsoever. I've done a search on the forum and have found some very good suggestions. One is to check for the commonly known B2 Piston failure. I've removed the B2 Piston and it looks fine even though it looks like it's an older B2 piston. The sleeve is black plastic with a thin metal ring on the inside of the sleeve not like some of the other plastic sleeves I've seen on some posts.
Now that I've checked that piston does anyone have any other suggestions what else I could check? Is the B1 piston known to fail as well? Help!! Any help is appreciated...
