Mine wasn't fitting properly so I just wrapped duct (foil) tape around it, nice and sealed now.
![]() ![]() Edit: Fastlane only has the seal from turbo to u-boot, not the upper one....and the lower one is $7.35! ![]() ![]()

Where did you get the seals from?
I tried removing mine this weekend, but the turbo end would not come off. I was concerned about breaking the plastic, so I just let it be. Any tips? |

I've pulled my u boot off a couple of times and had a miserable time getting it back on. It all fits so tight that I can't get the seal onto the air intake and the turbo intake without getting the seals misaligned or I can't get the u boot on all the way. I tried the method you describe (leaving the seal sticking out just a bit) and I still can't get the thing to go on. It fits too tight. The seals look pretty new they are still fairly supple. Any suggestions?

Try loosening the clamps up a lot, I noticed that once it was hindering me. I had to do it many times to get the seal up the right amount. But I did it yesterday and again today and did it just fine. Its not easy, but makes a huge difference.

I actually ended up cutting the lip off of the U-tube (air cleaner end). That way, I could put the seal on the air cleaner horn and then slide the U-tube on. That way I know where the seal is (not pushed up into the U). Furthermore, there is plenty of clamping force to keep the thing from coming off. Kind of a dumb setup if you ask me. If you can't get the DieselGiant way to work, and you don't want to do my approach, the only other alternative would be some adhesive...

I am curious as to why nobody else can seem to get the seal ring on. I do admit it took me a while to figure it out. Yes it is a pain. I guess that when the cars were new the U tube was much more pliable and easer to accept the seal ring when installing it.

The tube on our '83 goes on and off with no problems, the one on my car is a pain, I've never gotten it all the way on to the aircleaner, so I get it as far as I can, clamp it nice and good, then seal it with my foil tape....

I don't knowwhy but I spent probably and hour once when I was trying to get it back on. I was trying to get it on all the way with all the proper alignment. But it just didn't want to go on properly, so I got it on as good as I could and tighten the heck out of the clamps, and it seems to be holding fine. Maybe I'll try Bajaman's idea.

When I replaced my seals last year, I ended up with dirty arms, pants, shirt, socks, you name it. You have to basically hug it and wrestle the thing together. Yes, I found that the half-in method worked for me too. Now when I want to take my air cleaner housing off, I loosen the band on the TURBO connection and remove it from there. That fitting is nice and snug, but not crazy impossible to get together like the air box end.

That's what I did when I replaced a few sets of air filter housing mounts. It was such a pain to get the tube attached to the air filter housing that I just left it attached and disconnected it at the turbo. I lifted up and forward and the whole assembly came right off, with the tube still attached to the housing.
