well after many hours searching and reading the forum's advice, I got up the courage to replace the tumbler on the 300D. (diesel giant's pics are great
http://dieselgiant.com/repairignitionlock.htm. ) this forum is so great!
turns out it took less than 20 minutes, once I got the paper clip right. (beginners luck I guess)
I ordered a VIN matched tumbler / key set. Ignition works great, but the key doesn't work in the drivers or passenger door. The new key works great on the trunk.
Is this a common problem, due to key wear...Is there any adjustment that can be done on the driver's/pass door locks? or am I now a two key car guy?
playing with the old tumbler now that it's out makes me realize I was only a couple of turns away from totally stuck, so glad it's done,

but not thrilled about 2 keys.
