should i??

Cruising craigslist as usual and came up with a 81 300SD parts car for $150. Went to take a look at it, the body was clean no rust or dents from what i saw. He said it starts but the engine knocks loudly and when running it spews out clouds of black smoke.

Interior seemed ok, missing center console and the top of the instrument panel dash looked like it had been chewed on by rats. and driver door panel missing.
Other then that it was all there.

What do you guys think? i want it for the things i need to replace on my car, if i get this i wont sell my SD ill just use the parts off this one and just sell any other parts on it that you guys or anyone else may need.

But from decribed you think its worth $150?

$150?! Of course! $150 can't even buy two new tires! I'd have bought it on the spot, and pulled it home with a yoke around my neck.

I would buy some parts from you, I need fog lights and a few other things......

Can you just pull an '81 SD? Is that going to be okay for the transmission? If you want the transmission, that is.

Depends on how far and how fast. The rear pump will protect it as long as you take it easy. $150 is cheap. I spent many times that some years ago for a parts car, but it was still worth it.

Yep do it!!! I just brought home a parts car yesterday for $75. I can get my parts off, have a few extras for other things that might bust up on mine or if other poeple want parts and then scrap it for about $100. So that is better than free parts. The car is ugly as heck and has few parts as 73 220D but enough to make it worth my time. Good things for forum members as well. Since they are so cheap and we bascially get our parts for free I'm just going to get rid of any parts anyone wants (that I haven't already claimed ) for free to ($5 bucks if it is a pain in my ass to get off...car is never comming off the trailer). Kinda a pay it forward for all the help I've gotten from the community. So if anyone wants parts from a 73 220D let me know. It is going to the scrap yard Tuesday

If I'm not mistaken MB says you can pull it for up to 50 miles as long as you don't exceed 35 mph. I would check on that before doing it, though!!

The Touareg will pull that, no problems. Nice score! You can't go wrong for that price. Starter, alt., injectors, half shafts, vac pump, IP, radiator, battery?, tires, wheels (maybe), calipers, yada yada yada.......
Any 2 or 3 of the above and you're already there. I'm sure some folks with SD's need stuff, and you could give them a good deal and still make your $ back.
Good luck.

yeah all the stuff i would need would have been only $150 from a partser. I can imagine the fuel mileage on the touareg though. it gets 13mpg with all of us in it and 15mpg with just myself and dad but pulling that SD

$150.

I don't know how far from your house the car is, but you if you or your folks
have CSAA towing, upgrade it so that tows up to 100 miles are covered.

Good insurance for guys like us that drive old cars...
