I have no problem with the mechanical design, quality, performance, or cost; I just don't like them.

Generally a wise idea Brian.

I was just assuming that the V12 was bad (usually a safe assumption), and since there is an extra 617 laying around......
I actually thought about the swap more in terms of the 6 cyl. being swapped out. I have driven a few of those, and the position of the steering wheel just isn't comfortable. Looks mighty cool over that hood though......

Well, as he mentioned above, the V12's are trashed.....for whatever reason, so, the idea makes a bit more sense.

But, it's still a whole lot of work to accomplish, including jury rigged rack linkages and transmission connections. When you get done with all that work, you've got a vehicle that nobody would purchase other than yourself or some other diehard M/B fan.......and that's even unlikely.

It isn't going to be much work for me at all! It's awful easy for me to tell somebody else to give it a try. I'd love to see one, but I don't have near those skills...

JaguVettes are a nice conversion, you get the reliablity of the Chevy V8, the ability to crank out lots of horses = paste your ass to the seat accelaration, very decent road handling, and a very classy body. Shopped well and done right, you can have a great car for 15 grand.

Put a 617 in Jag...not my idea of a good conversion...of course you would look real cool going real slow...great parade car. I'm sure the Jag would rather you just put a bullet though it's hood and just let it die in peace.

......now it gets to die in a fog of diesel fumes.........going slower than anything else on the road.........with the possible exception of a 240.

Poor cat, I'll even provide the bullet for such a worthy cause.

That one made me laugh reeal hard.

Hey, 617's are fast when they've been put in concept cars and tuned to 300+ hp by a large group of MB engineers! 200+mph!

I've seen kits that claim to have 100% of the parts to do a chevy eng Jaguar conversion. I've always thought that Jags of the 70's and 80's looked good, but heard nothing but horror stories about the engines and electrics, including unfixable 3 month old cars!

True: A friend had a RR limo at his wedding. The reception was in his father-in-law's (fairly fancy) house in an exclusive neighborhood of winding streets that the limo could barely manouver through. Anyway, it stalled! My friend's dad, (an engineer at Ford) and I wanted to see the engine (their engines are supposed to be very nicely detailed). Under the hood - surprise! a dirty small-block Cheby painted orange with a brush, equipped with a genuine chrome plated air cleaner (rusty). Ha ha, I gave them the business about putting on a show as the entire bridal party provided the power so that the driver could execute a series of complex turns to get the limo off the street...

Have any of you guys ever found out what a V-12 costs to repair? the heads cost a small fortune 20 years ago...smooth yes but costly to repair and maintain...they are not a reliable engine. The six was a far more reliable engine. I used to have a friend who was a service manager at a Jaguar dealer in MD.

The Small block chevy while a simpler engine is more efficient and makes more power, and is more reliable than either engine with less weight. Thats why its a popular swap.

I disagree, it makes good sense, and I would buy it.

Have a great day.
