80's Lincoln Diesel info needed

Got a friend with a old BMW powered Diesel Lincoln (no tranny & good engine) and needs to know what tranny's were used with this rig. Did it use a Ford Auto trans or BMW auto trans? Was there a 5 spd available for this rig in US or a 5 sp that would bolt up to it instead of automatic?

Any info I could pass along would be great.

i think

it was only available in the lincoln with an automatic. i think ford.

but a bmw stick tranny should bolt up. and a clutch assembly from a t bird should bolt in i would think. so he should be able to five speed it. the ds would have to be adapted.

but it would prob be a lot cheaper to put in a ford tranny with od.

Thumbs up

I could swear they had a ZF 4HP22 behind that diesel, not the EH like in the 745is but the standard shift one. Crap thing about the trans it's geared awful, a 2.47:1 first gear only.

If you toss in a five speed, the 265 Getrag is the stronger one from my memory. I agree with Tom, the T-bird or even a Mustang manual setup should be okay as that LSC is a Fox frame.

Yep it's 4hp22. Used them in landrovers and jags so there should be lots of good builders around

Don't forget they love to burn up the forward clutch pack due to stator + input shaft problems. Not to worry, it's a simple fix with new o-rings and a small hole in the clutch housing.
