K1 spring kit where ?

OK I give. I think the K1 kit will solve my transmission problems on an 85 300D with 175 k on the clock, Slipping and bad flaring going into 3 rd but also in 4th if trying to climb a hill. I have read many hours of search results and I think the K1 kit might be the answer. I added trans X today and ran the car around for 40 miles but no change. So much for snake oil !!! And yes the oil level is correct. What a PITA that evolution is. Nasty looking oil and I will change the oil and filter soon. Where have you all found a K1 spring kit for sale ? Fastlane appears to be out (my first choice) My Merc dealer apparently cannot see out out of his belly button due to the location of his head (up azz) so please help me out. I would like to do the oil, filter and K1 in one shot. Thanks !

K1 Kit

I got mine at the dealer. Give yours the part number, and he can get it, even with head up azz.

There is another way...

http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=2&Product_Code=S68165D

This kit has several springs in it, including the K2, which is the 3-4 shift. The K1 will not affect the 3-4 shift, only the 2-3.

It's about $50. I used it once and both the K1 and K2 springs worked to provide reasonable firm shifts. If there are lots of worn parts, don't expect magic, but it worked for me on a car with 200K.

The MB K1 is a complete kit, with plastic housing. The Superior Shift Kit is a bunch of springs that replace all the fancy plastic bits with a single spring. Less elegant maybe, but it seems to work.

Is it possible to install all of the Superior Shift Kit, by removing just the transmission oil pan?

No, it's not. But the K1 and K2 are replaceable just by dropping the pan. Apparently the valve body (approx 1 zillion screws) has to come out for the rest. Doesn't look hard.

I only needed better 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, so I bagged the rest of the kit. In hindsight, it would have been cheaper maybe to get the K1 and K2 kits (if there is such a thing as a K2 kit) from the dealer.

TenKnots... your bulkpart.com link is not working !??

tenknots,

The link:
http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/me...t_Code=S68165D
does not want to work !
Would you please double check what you meant to post... or maybe it's just down for maintenance !??
Your 2-3 and 3-4 shift symptoms sound exactly the same as what we have on an 1980 model 300D

Link seems to be OK now... Try this:

http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=2&Product_Code=S68165D&Category_Code=722-3vbkits&Product_Count=1

As for the 1-2 slipping, I've never heard of that unless the there is too much vacuum at the modulator - unlikely. Low fluid can cause slipping in any gear.
