Question Occasional rough idle, shaking W210 diesel (1998/99 MY)

Has anyone come across this issue?

My 1999 diesel does this occasionally but only under specific conditions. Car has to be hot, standing in traffic for long periods of time or moving around a parking lot at very low speeds. It doesn't do it all the time and it's not predictable.

It feels like the FI pump is trying to do something that it's unable to achieve.

Thanks.

Joe, thanks for the link. That doesn't really describe what's going on with this car. I have no cold start issues, no smoke at all. MAFS has been replaced, GPs have been replaced.

The issue I have is very similar to what's described in the short article.

I was wondering if anybody had replaced their ECu and found a change by doing so.

Thx.

Wow I have never heard of this before I have something similar that happens to my vehicle as well... You have to replace the whole ECU??? or can you flash the ECU? This is very interesting

flashing the ecu I don't think it will help. When I chiped my car the ecu was flashed and new program was loaded up in it, but the problem was still there.

no more cold start problems after changing GP-s but shaking it's still there. Read on , not only the begining of the post. Joe

my car has been chipped to.. .What I was referring to was; can the new Mercedes Benz software version be flashed onto the ECU or does it reside on a portion of the ECU that has been "burned"? How do we go about getting this software update on our cars? I really dont want to take my car to the dealership then find out that I will be fitting the bill for a new ECU. BTW the build date on my car is 05/99 which I assume is a really late build date in terms of 606 W210's.

Hmmmm, not good. The previous owner of my car said the problem only appeared after the car was chipped.

I know that re-flashing will over-write tuning programs on other cars. I sure don't know about MBz ECUs. I guess it's a condition I'll live with, I am not keen on losing the chip tuning program.

I started this post to share the little article and to determine if anyone else was familiar with the software update noted in the article.

Joe, I did read the thread in its entirety. I must have missed a key point.

I find the CCV design somewhat odd on this car. VW had a similar design and they found that oily vapors would continue to migrate onto the MAFS long after the car was shutdown. The design employed on the 1998-99 looks terrible when considering this.
