300SDL engine shutdown problem, need part identified

Hi all,

I was poking around the engine compartment, trying to vacuum out the rats nest under the battery (yes the battery holder was rusted), and while trying to do the other side of the car I snapped off a vacuum hose that seems to facilitate engine shutdown.

I've got the CD manuals from classic benz, but I just got them today and haven't been able to identify the gray part.

Do I need to replace the gray bulbous part or do I just need a plastic hose or what?

More pics at http://zbros.net/~marko/300sdl/shutdown/

Thanks all. Also, any other way to get below the fuse box to clean out the leaves without removing the fuse box...there are an awful lot of wires running near it and they don't want to move out of the way.

-Marko

Welcome to that club.

You get to replace the entire line.......from the vacuum pump all the way to the brake booster. Fortunately, the cost from the dealer is only about $45.00.

Or, you can try various solutions involving JB Weld for plastic........which has worked for about 1 out of 5 of us who have attempted it. I'm not one of them.

I had to replace the m/c recently and used that opportunity to clean out the leaves. It's nearly impossible with the m/c and fusebox in place........as you have observed. I think it's faster to remove the m/c and reinstall it, then to remove the fusebox.

Do you know the part name/number? Is there a separate name for the gray part? Is it not replaceable by itself? I looked under check valve on the parts search and it doesn't look like that..

Thanks.

It's not replaceable by itself, AFAIK.

Yep.....worked fantastic. Thanks again.

But, the feel on the SDL remains a bit softer than the SD. Can't quite figure it out. I'm fairly sure I've got all the air out of it.

Vac pump differences could be the reason? Brake hoses?
