Question 300D driveshaft vibration damper?

I was under my 1985 300D 5 speed checking an exhaust rattle and I noticed that the vibration damper (I think) on the driveshaft looked like it wasn't long for this world. My regular mechanic said to just remove it as he hasn't seen it on other cars and couldn't locate it in his parts manual.

Does anyone have any experience with this part? There was an old posting from 1999 that referenced part number 123.411.15.87 but the reply said to just remove it!

Removed the one on my 240D a couple years ago. Zero driveline vibration on that car, in fact, better than my 300D.

I don't know for sure about the 123, but I have a 126 and when the damper went on mine, it felt like someone was kicking you in the butt everytime you accelerated. Its easy to change and aren't that expensive.
Just my $.02

Hi

Had this on a 190E and removed it because the testing station said it was cracked ( he thought it was a universal joint wa---r) and there was a very very slight vibration after. I was told it is matched to the drive shaft and you have to buy a pair.
