the thing that really ticks me off...

IS NO CUP HOLDERS IN THESE CARS!! This that a German thing? I know Germans drink, why no cup holders? The cute little indentions on the inside of the glove box door don't count. Little things mean a lot.

So what are you guys doing for cup holders? Or do you just drive with one hand?

Right now I am thinking of getting one of those H2O bladders with the long sippy tube and hanging it off the back of the seat. (Hope I can get ice cubes in it for my iced tea).

You are correct, Germans do not drink in their cars, they focus on driving when in the car. (my dad has explained this to me ) Newer MB's do have them though, but our cars are from the era when driving was an art, and you were riding in a precision machine built specifically for that purpose, not just a "means of transportation" that you'd be bored and drinking stuff in.

When I drink in the car I usually just have a water bottle with a cap, then I can just toss it on the seat next to me, or have it in the console laying down...works fine.

I've been waiting for this one

I got a cub holder wedge "for foreign cars" at Advance Autoparts that fits nicely between the seat an the armrest of my W123 and W126. Oddly it does not fit in the W150. Works good if i have no one in front seat. I keep hot coffee in a ceramic coffe mug just fine.

Different culture, Germans do no eat in the car. I frankly love not having cup holders, the rule in my car is you open up food you get dumped on the side of the road. So not having cup holders isn't a bad thing.

The new MB's have cup holders now, but they suck. The W210's robo arm one is decent.

BS, we have cupholders.

Just lower the glove box door and there are a couple of cupholders there.

Make sure you don't go over 20 mph and don't hit the slightest bump in the pavement.......and.......don't make any turns.

Yeah I know, thats why when someone asks I'm better off saying the car doesn't have them. My dad uses those, you would be amazed at how smooth I can drive with a hot cup of coffee perched in one of them.

Build one.

A fill for the parcel tray between the seats, build a support, attach it to the front piece of the console and then reveneer it to match.

At some point, that is what I'll do, but I don't want to lose my crap storage either, so I'll only build one cupholder in

Or you can go to walmart and buy a dual adjustable cupholder called a "spill-master" for like 8 bux, I've had one since I got the car and it fits pretty well, just doesn't look nice.

Decent by comparison, I take it. It's not what I'd call very good.

It really only holds one cup, unless the driver is extremely deft at reaching for his. And of course, let's not even discuss the electronics under it.

anybody built their own? post pics

When I get around to building my own I will post pics, currently I have an suv bench console wedged between the seatbelt posts and it works pretty well, covers the storage, but it comes with it's own storage pockets, and a change dispenser too!
UGLY as sin, but it almost matches the color (palomino) of my interior. can't use the armwrest though.....
and who says you have to drink while driving. drive through windows are also for picking up food and drink to transport where you are going to consume mass quanties! we will enjoy it!

Americans LOVE cupholders! That's why some US made minivans have ten of them.

My mechanic, who is from Germany, told me driving is SERIOUS business, you want to drive in the fatherland, you have to study for a year, to learn the rules of the road, and are tested how to recover from a skid on an icy road, you have to learn first aid, it is real rough to pass, but you are a good driver if you get a driving license

Mercedes resisted cupholders for a long time. I admit, I had an aftermarket burlwood one installed.

There was a guy driving a big old Pontiac Bonneville down Geary Blvd. in San Francisco, EATING A PLATE OF RIBS!! Got to love it.

Then there was that realtor lady in Connecticut in a Jeep Grand Cherokee talking on *TWO* cell phones who ran off the road and rolled the Jeep.

( I was driving when I heard that, I was so shocked I dropped my lipstick into my coffee) j/k

Glovebox cup holders and suspension tuning

I think someone should combine the thread on comfort vs performance shocks from Bilstein with the cup holder thread, and do practical testing on which common after market shocks (Bilstein, Boge, KYB) allow the greatest speed on a given road before the cup falls off the glove box lid

Seriously, if we were able to eliminate cell phone use while driving, eating while driving and most drive ins themselves, then North America would be a much safer and cleaner place!

I don't know which is worse, doing that or admitting to it.

Nice!

Anyway, since I always drive with the armrest in use, and coffee is the only thing that I spill (everything else has a cap), my travel mug fits perfectly underneath the armrest. It's not so tall as to put too much pressure on it, but enough to keep the mug from going anywhere.
