that is definitely probably what people were thinking seeing a 123 passing them at about 90.
nice around town rolling about in S.. and overall not a huge loss from the start.
definitely will be needing to keep the nearly unlimited top end in check, not to mention 17"s and bilstein HD's are near mandatory.

aw man, now I am drooling even more for a 2.47.....I was flying a few days ago even with my 3.07 though, at 4800 rpm in 4th your going really fast!! I was like a streak going down the road..... I bet I suprised the people behind me (a pickup truck driver who was tailgating me at 82mph for a while) and then I took off, must have suprised them, maybe they thought my "old diesel" was maxed out at 82mph.... I probably did about 110 down a hill moving away from that group of cars (kept this speed up almost 4 miles nonstop, pedal alllll the way to the floor)....things would get out of hand if I had a 2.47.... Then again, it'd be nice to set the cruise at 74mph and have it at 2500rpm or so....that'd be awesome.

Early 240D should have a 3.69.

It *could* go over 87mph. If it had more guts.

The only reason I can top it out at 93mph is the extra 53hp I have under the hood.

Would putting a different differential in really slow it down in town?

I could really use picking up a highway MPG or two (or 10 heh heh) if it wouldn't effect in town driving much!

sounds good, what model mb did you get 2.47 from, where there any modifications.

I believe a 2.47 comes off a 380SE W126.

I am right now in the process of buying another diff for my w123 wagon, because of the om603 turbo + autobox i'm dropping in at the moment.
I was offered also a 2.65 (which was original with the 603) from a 450SE 6.9.....for almost the same price. This 6.9 diff. has a limited slip in it, which is nice because of the power/torque (maybe bit more in the future).
Maybe i can reach 130 MPH with my diesel wagon W123

the 6.9 rear prob wont bolt into 123 chassis.

maybe more like 115 w 300turbo and 247 rear end.

About the 6.9 diff: the guy who is selling it is not a guy who, how do you say it, brags about stuff, or says that he knows best. In fact he is a bit 'silent'
He has a one-man company in old MB cars en parts, and imports rustfree MB's form the USA (sorry, but he also has to make a living )

I dont know, never even seen a 6.9er let alone the diff.

My 83 300D w123 NA 4spd does 85 no prob, I dont think 100 would be unreasonable. I havent gone faster as there is a serious wheel balance issue, plus I'm waiting on my "de taxi" custom plates and the ignition is hotwired. Cop would love to pull me over lol.

Believe its a 2.88.......for the '85 US market version. The 82-84 is a 3.07 ratio as is stamped on the rear side of the lower ear of the differential housing. Not the cover. Clean it off and you will see a string of numbers.

i have no facts just a gut feeling. i think it would be something i would be very careful about before shelling out (i assume) a good sum for the 6.9 diff. the 115 mph is what i think the 300turbo will do max with the 247 gears.

i hope the diff fits. cool feature.
