Check radiator cap for cracked gasket bad spring, the seating surface for corrosion. Fan clutch could be bad too. Could be plugged radiator.

Does it overheat while cruising, or during stop and go?

After it is warmed up, turn it off, and carefully! check the radiator for cool spots (or spots that are not as hot as others).

good luck

Did you replace it with a used radiator or a new radiator? What temp does it usualy run. With a perfect cooling system it should stay at about 80C regardless of conditions or load.

Could be the head gasket as well, lots more info is needed.

Have you pressure tested the cooling system?

Is this while stopped or while moving? First determine if you think it is a coolant flow problem or an airflow problem or a combination of both. What temp is it reaching?

Why don't you just go find a reputable repair shop?????????
You need to determine when this overheating happens.

Freeway or in town

Does it help to turn the heat on, and not a/c and heat, use the ec button

is it full of the right mixture of coolant? Many people don't know that coolant does not dissipate heat, that's what the H2O is for

I would suggest finding a repair shop that can answer some basic questions before bringing the car in to be check out.
FYI, I have never seen a Benz head that was making the car overheat. At least as far back as my memory can remember

well it all depends, i will be crusing along and then all of a sudden the temp is going over 100c and then i discover that there is no water in the radiator and hot steam coming from the overflow tank. I have overheated just sitting once, it seems that if i fill up the radiator every day it seems to be just fine but it seems to be loosing alot of water.. some how. I replaced the radiator with a spare used one that i had from my parts car, still same problem. I have also replaced the thermostat and at the moment i cant afford to put $10 of antifreeze into my car every day so ive been just using water

I believe your answer has been discovered in your own words-you have to "add water" correct? If so, you'll need to determine the source of the water loss-if you do not see liquid on the ground then it is most likely going out the tail pipe. Head gasket or cracked head???????????? Good luck

When the car is dead cold, top up the cooling system, start it up, and if the water comes bubbling out right off, your head gasket is blown. Personally I haven't seen this in a long long time, but it is possable.

are you sure you got the tstat in the right way?

if in backwards it will cause a lot of trouble, perhaps pushing out water around your rad cap too.

also would help to know the year of your sd.

Hate to say it but sounds like a head gasket. May be a cracked head. Talk to Brian Carlton he went through that with his SD. I'd send a sample of oil out to the lab and see what comes back.

Your pressure cap is bad. You are suppose to check or replace them every 2 years when you flush the system. If you are loosing coolant it will run warmer. I'm willing to bet this is your problem since it ran fine for a few days after work was done (and system refilled) until it runs low again.

Thats what happened with my 250.

well my car is a 1980 300SD i replaced the radiator a few days ago and it was still overheating then a few days later it stopped overheating and I noticed a hole in the top of the radiator where steam was coming out so it seems now if i keep filling it up it wont overheat but its loosing alot of warer in steam. The thermostat is in the right way because i took the old one out and made sure i put the new one in in same direction. I am realy confused... My old radiator is leaking also thats why i took it out so im gonna get that patched on tuesday, replace it and see if that helps any
