300D manual trans flywheel
Hi. I am looking at putting a 300D engine in my 1949 Studebaker pixkup to run on veggie oil. I want to keep it a manual trans. I can adapt a later model 5 speed TKO trans to the motor, but I need to know what flywheel will bolt up to the 300D. It is my understanding they only came with automatics. Can anyone help?
PS - If I offended any MB enthuisiast by putting a MB motor in a Studebaker, just remember Studebaker used to sell MB's at their dealerships in the 1950's. |

The only folks you're offending are the folks who think there should be a small block Chevy under every hood
![]() Once in a while you'll see for sale a European 300D with 4- or 5-speed MT. I think you can use a 240D flywheel. If you use an AT crank then you might need to drill a cavity for a pilot bearing. Sixto |

the cranks are all drilled for the pilot bearings on a benz, in my experience. the best solution is a 300 euro flywheel but a 240 will work. the 300 weighs 38# the 240 28. so the heavier one will make it idle smoother. the fsm says they must be balanced with your exising fw. but many of us have found them to be neutrally balanced so it is best to have it checked for balance... and the fw you take out too. if the one off your motor is not neutral you need to balance the new fw with it. it shows how to do this in the fsm.
