1998 E300TD Ultra-Low Sulfur Fuel?
Hello everyone. I own a 1998 Mercedes E300 Turbodiesel with 71,000 miles. I have always used the Texaco station down the street to refuel (45 Cetane-low sulfur 500 ppm). Recently, the station manager informed me that they would only be supplying ultra-low sulfur fuel (15 ppm). Is the new ultra-low sulfur fuel OK for my 1998 TD? Thanks!

Ohh Jeeezzee
Please search ULSD in this forum, we have gone over this topic over and over agian hehe. From my understanding its like when cars switched from lead to unleaded, everyone was freaking out, but no one knows whats going to really happen until we start to use it. if ur really worried you can put a diesel fuel additive but try searching the topic, there is lots of good info

Do a search here on ULSD, and you will find 6 zillion opinions. The bottom line is that USLD will be mandatory throughout the US after 10/06 so we don't have any choice. By all accounts, these cars are doing fine on ULSD in europe.

Search for my recent topic. The company i work for got a letter warning us about the causes of ULSD.
On the TDIclub forum a member from L.A.,ca had a 97 VW passat TDI. That had been running on regular 500ppm diesel. When LA was mandated ULSD in 2001 it caused the seals on the IP to shrink and caused leaks in his car. According to the letter youll have to mix LSD with ULSD with high % LSD and low % ULSD and work your way up so the seals will stay intact. Also change the engine oil after that as well. Transitioning from 500ppm to 15ppm can cause the oil to polermize and get lumpy.
