81 SD exhaust manifold repair parts list,TIPS

Hello all,
I have just finished searching the repair of the exhaust manifold gasket,It doesn't seem to be a popular job to tackle. And am hoping you can offer some tips or tricks along w/ a parts/tool list that might help me.It looks as if the whole ass. has to come off to fix the leak,so if thats the case what else should I look for, fix, replace during this 6-14 hr trial...I wish I could just loosen a couple bolts and slide a gasket in..but no luck huh?..as you can tell I am not very excited about this one. Thanks in advance Scott

PS oh by the way,we are going to hit 110* in the shade this fri. YEAH!!!!!!

Loosen the bottom fastener on the air filter bracket first. This way the worst one is behind you.

Get a swivel socket and a long extension for that damn bolt. Easy that way, so long as you can find it. Rest of the job is pretty much like any exhaust/ intake removal. Lotta bolts. Chiltons has some details.
To change the exhaust gasket I am thinking you should be able to get the exhaust. intake moved away from the engine without unbolting the exhaust pipe at the donut. That could save some time.
