300TDT '82 What the heck??
I opened the passenger panel under the glovebox to discover this little red guy flapping in the wind.
Any ideas what part of the vacuum system this guy belongs to? Also, the rpm's jump by about 400 just before going in to 4th gear. What's that all about? Any guesses. Sorry. I'm a newbie. This is my first benz, and I'm mystified, and inspired, all at the same time. Thanks |

My guess is that's one of the hoses that goes to the recirculation flap vacuum actuators. In a W126 the actuators are above the glove box.
Do a search on 'flaring' for ideas on what's going on with your transmission. You might buy some time by adjusting the modulator but my guess is that it's getting tired. Sixto |

That one goes to the flap the allows outside air in. I imagine someone intentially disconnected it. The pod should be about right behind your hand a little higher up. Hopefully, they disconnected the other pod that works in conjunction with this one to prevent it from pulling in outside air too. Make sure the hoses are plugged with a bb.

The actuator you are looking for is pink. It should have two ports, and one is missing that red vac line.

Don't the actuators pull the flap closed? The recirc flap is always open if the hose is disconnected.

If the plastic tube is SOLID red it goes to the element just above your hand on the rear side of the evaporator box.
If the plastic tube is Red with a black stipe then it goes to the center vent element which is above the evaporator box in the center of the dash between the center vents and the whind shield. Are the center vents closing when you select full heat?? If not then its the center vent element. If they operate normally ( open when selecting cool/cold air and closed when selecting heat) then it is not the top element. Dave

the center vents seem to not work at all.
I'll check to see if I can reconnect it. These forums are awesome. An absolute wealth of knowledge here. Any other ideas on the transmission? The shift from 1-2 is a little hard, and it jumps about 400 rpm just before fourth. It runs solid and will cruise at 75mph on the freeway. Thanks guys. |

i reconnected the red hose, but there doesn't seem to be a change. when I manually move the control arm behind associated with the pink piece, nothing happens. my center air vents still don't work.
