AC & Window issue

Ok I did a search but did not find what I needed…. It starts like this I buy a real clean 82 300D from the original owner; almost everything works…well the important stuff anyways. All window work (except for the left rear), heater, AC, roof, and more…great car I love it. The window switch on the right rear had a cracked body so I bought a new one…changed it out…now it blows fuses when I try to use it, even if I use the switch on the center counsel. WTF?

And second, AC no longer works. When the car is running with the AC turned on the center clutch thing does not engage on the compressor. I used a tester to see if it had power running to it and no it doesn’t. Checked fuses, connections, I’m lost, please help, it was 100 here on Saturday.

Thank you
Robert

It was blazing here in SO CA during the weekend. Yeah I know you Texas guys think we're a bunch of wimps with the heat.....blah blah blah.

I don't have my wiring book at the office here, but I think the two problems are NOT related.

From your post, I think you meant to say you replaced the door mounted right window switch. Whether you now use the console mounted switch OR the door mounted switch, you blow a fuse. Is this right? Put the old switch back in and recheck the outcome. OR swap the left and right hand side switches and see if the problem is still there.

As far as the AC compressor, you could have any number of problems. But I don't think they are related to the windows. It most likely is a coincidence. You'll need to do a search about AC problems. Its all there in the archives.

For your AC problem, I would suspect solder joints in the ACC controller. When you open it up you will find three boards arranged in an "H" pattern. What happens is the joints crack and the solder needs to be touched up.

The window problem sounds like you may have accidently misplaced a wire. There is an on-line wiring diagram at http://mb.braingears.com

SD, this would be the controller mounted in the dash correct?

Yes, the ACC controller is in the dash. Pull the ashtray and radio then you gain access. Once you get it out, it really comes apart easily.http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1TK0N72XS1TK0N7KON&year=1984&make=MB&model=300-SD-002&category=R&part=Climate+Control+Unit
