where to buy mb tex

Anybody have any recommendations for MB tex replacement seat covers? Adsitco is the only outlet I've come across and they only sell a kit for all of the seat covers. I only need the front seats.

thanks

I've never bought a seat kit, but the raw materials (multi-loop carpet and parchment MB-Tex) were exact
matches.

Adsitco

I got a front seat and armrest from Adsitco a year and a half ago because they had the best price at the time.
The covers they shipped were made by GAHH and were perfect.
Their website shows that you can get any component. http://www.adsitco.com/category.asp?CID=1556
Performance products prices are currently a little better. Last week they had a 20%discount on orders over $500 so sometimes it pays to wait for a sale. I think their covers are also from GAHH.

I usually hang out on the ShopForum, but thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I'm in the midst of redecorating the living room of my mid-seventies built house that I affectionately refer to as "The Disco Palace" and am maintaining the seventies look.

The couch and loveseat are out for reupholstery, and the next project is the leather recliner. I've always loved the Palomino MB-Tex interior in my '88 190E 2.6 (original owner, special order five-speed manual) and was considering a similar color leather.

So after comparing some tan leather samples, I thought, why not recover the recliner in Palomino MB-Tex? We all know how durable that material is, but where to buy and how much... maybe a dealer, but will I have to remortgage the house to afford the required 8 yards (54" wide bolt)?

So this thread with the worlduph link popped up in my goggle search. I contacted them for a sample, and it certainly appears to be the real deal, and the $40 per yard price for the bulk grained version of the fabric that is used on the side bolsters and side coverings is totally reasonable. I have to take it to my upholsterer to be sure he can work with it and if so, I'll proceed.

When done I'll post a photo, but give me a few weeks.

Duke

Very interesting. Are you going to have them put the breathing holes in it?

No, and I just edited my post to clarify. So it won't look like an actual car seat. That's not my intent. The entire covering will be the flat, grained fabric that is used on the side bolsters and lower sides of the seats, primarily because of its durability because I spend more time, nowadays, in the recliner than in the garage.

For a price comparison I bought a chocolate brown vinyl (made in China), 15 yards, for the loveseat at JoAnn's, which is rarely used so durability is not a big issue. The regular price was $35/yard, but it was on sale for half price with an additional 20 percent coupon discount, so out the door with CA sales tax was only $230.

The Kravet "Casenovia Navaho" couch (rhymes with OUCH) fabric is $95/yard, which is why I think the MB-Tex is a helluva value.

Agree. I had a 1970 6.3 for about ten years with leather seats. Those doggone things - driver's seat - wore out before I sold it. Then I went the exact opposite way and bought an '81 300SD with about 95hp. It had and still has MB tex and it wears like iron. Granted I have about worn out my drivers seat but it certainly lasted years and years longer than the leather. In fact the other seats look just about new.

My son has a new E350 and I wonder if it has MB tex seats; have never looked.

Like most projects, this one took longer than expected, but I'm very pleased with the outcome. The restored recliner covered in Palomino MB-Tex looks great, and, of course, with new foam is very comfortable and great for my aching back, and at my age, I expect it will outlive me.

So if you ever want to recover any of your house furniture, consider MB-Tex.

Our 05 E320 CDI has MB Tex, and the center perforated section is leather.

May turn out to be the best of both worlds, since the wear point seems to be the side bolster, and that's MB Tex. At 210K miles, the driver's seat is still "perfect".

Our 14 E250 BlueTEC has MB Tex, but I haven't been able to definitively tell if it also has leather center sections...... Haven't had to get into the seats yet.

Jim
