The fuel pump is on the side of the IP. There is no pump between the tank and clear filter.
There is no filter per se in the tank. There is a strainer just above where tank drains into the fuel line to the engine bay. How long since you replaced the clear and big filters? Sixto |

the pump that is on the side of the IP is driven by the cam within the IP, like sixto said check your fuel filters if the clear one is black it needs to be changed along with the big canister type one

fuel pump
if you disconnected the fuel line at the little plastic prefilter
then you disconnected in front of the fuel pump... the fuel pump or IP is sucking fuel from that point... the reason its trickling out not is becasue the IP is returning fuel and becasue of the tank vacuum it would be pushing some fuel out.... there is another metal line right there called the return line... disconnect that one and you will see fuel flowing, lots of fuel flowing.... its called the cigar hose. |

The return line after 1985 doesn't flare like the cigar hose. It's plain ol' hose.
In some MBs a full tank puts fuel higher than the filters. If you pull the feed line, fuel will pour out. You learn this the hard way working with the car facing downhill ![]() Sixto |
