Brake Clicking

I've done a search, but keep finding different noises covered...

Some history. Front passenger side brakes were (loudly) clicking with pressure applied when I bought the car (78 240d). Eventually (1000 miles) I lost pressure and needed a new master cylinder. Brakes bled and new master cylinder installed, but I still have a "clicking" noise when I apply the brakes...now coming from both sides (mostly passenger).

It seems like I recall having this same noise on an International Scout. New master cylinder fixed it though.

Any suggestions?

Other than that, this car is proving to be awesome. Took a 500 mile roadtrip this weekend and it did extremely well. Made it up the steep interstate grades fairly well...as long as I could accelerate downhill well ahead of time. Then, cruised on State Highways through Kentucky with no problems. I rewarded her with a wash/wax after the trip. Now I just need a new backseat and to look at the AC. Roof racks are coming in the mail next week.

i get a clicking when my brakes arent applied.. at speeds under 40 mph.. ive been told warped rotors. , take the wheel off and visually inspect the rotors and pads, then turn the wheel and watch everything, have a helper hit the brakes with (of course be safe since the car is in the air)

It sounds like it's pressure sensitive...like when so much pressure is applied to the brakes something releases (and clicks, or pops)...and it sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the lines themselves. Maybe? Rotors seemed good.

Also, no fluid leaks. Master Cylinder level is normal and consistent.

That's the sound I'm talking about!

Something like that is exactly what I'm hearing.

Any takers on what might cause the brakes to make a sound like mentioned previously. Sounds like the rim of a drum being hit with a drumstick...when brakes applied?

Bump on this.

I'm still having the noise when I brake. Not all of the time, but I will probably take it in this week and have it looked at.

Again, it's when the brakes are applied...about halfway to all the way...a loud CLICK noise similar to someone striking the side of a snare drum. Like a rim-shot.

Any takers?

I have an idea as to what it could be: Support Arm bushings. The support arm that goes back from the lower control arm (its a rod at an angle that fits into a socket on the frame) is probably shifting when you slow down (its there to prevent the suspension from shifting back under braking) and since the boot is probably shot its clanking around when force hits it. I'd have the suspension inspected, its more likely something there than the brakes/wheels themselves.

three. make it three.

brownie started doing that same thing. it stops when the brakes are applied. i checked the pads, new in jan and the clips are still there so it was not the pads rattling. thought it might be a bearing that needed packing again and was wobbly but the tires when pushed and shoved on the car are tight.
