Wondering if someone could please tell me how possible it would be to do a straight out motor swap between a 1982 300DT (good engine) to a 1977 300D (motor losing compression). Wondering if it's possible to do this with just the engine only...and not using the turbo off the 1982...or if I would have to do engine/transmission swap on both.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. ![]() |

physically it all should bolt in. there will be interface issues. the older car will have different placement of the ac compressor and power steering and such. some wiring issues perhaps. if you do it you will need to change the unit complete with tranny. the non turbo stuff may bolt up to the head, i am not sure. i have never heard of anyone changing a turbo motor to non turbo. usually they want to go the other way. the turbo motor has completely different pullys and such on the front so mixing and matching wont work. the turbo crank nose is longer.
good luck. better to find same years for a swap if possible. for simplicity. tom w
