I just wanted to say THANK YOU to these gentlemen and others who have helped me with some of my very basic questions. Unlike some of the "professionals" on this site, each new job I tackle on my 300sd involves new learning for me.
Yesterday evening I cleaned the banjo fitting and line on the inlet manifold and the valve on the same line leading back to the ALDA. The bolt was as gunked up as the pictures on DieselGiant's web site. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Better acceleration, smoother shifting, all round a nicer drive in city traffic. Question: There is a thin black vacuum line that disappears down towards the transmission - on my car it is threaded between the fitting for hoisting the engine and the rear of the rocker cover. It is only about one eighth inch away from the rocker cover/engine block as it bends to go down towards the tranny. This position would seem to expose the line to max possible combination of physical wear and heat. Should it not be routed through the gap behind the engine and the firewall? |

You will need to check and make sure that your tranny modulator is not unplugged. There is a black line that connects the tranny modulator valve.
Thanks for the kind words! It is very gratifying to teach others learn about these cars and help them save money to boot! Keep learning and turning wrenches and you will have a really nice ride.
