What are the symptoms of CV joint failure? W123
I have this noise that comes and goes. Happens app. once a month, and lasts for a few days. It comes from the rear, and is a clicking sound that I can't narrow down to a specific location, but some help from you guys may help me narrow it down. It can only be heard at acceleration, and doesn't come in till the end of 2nd gear. Remember, I know it is deffinately coming from the rear, and not the tranny. Thanks in advance for any recomendations.

A worn CV joint would click continuously under light load and while making a turn that puts more weight on it, e.g. while making a left turn if the right axle is bad. At least that was the symptom I experienced, but I suppose there could be other symptoms. I'm not sure about your symptoms, but I would get under the car and do a visual inspection, and especially check the condition of all rubber bushings and the driveshaft.

could be your brakes too. i have a clicking sound from the left front caliper at speeds under 45 mph.. i suspect warped rotor since its causing the pad to tap the caliper or a bad bearing... ill find out soon when i put my new rotors on

I don't think it's the brakes, however I havn't looked into the parking brake. I've been told that these can make a lot of racket if the lining is shot. The clicking in your front brakes could be to a lack of a spring clip on the caliper (the one that holds you slide pins). Mine had that problem when I bought it. Over bumps, it sounded like my front end was a trailer. Anyways, would CV joints make noise constantly? Mine is definately intermitant, has come and gone for over a year now. I'm not worried about it being a safety issue. It's just kind of embarassing.

If it turns out to be the axles, you can get good quality rebuilts from CVJ Axles in Denver. They are at http://www.cvjreman.com/index.php. Rebuilt axles for a W123 are $142 each with a $50 core charge plus shipping. I just put a pair on my 300D.
