Some pins not out by 180
I seem to remember something on this last year. Anyway, my pins are not off by 180 degrees. Its very hard to see by the naked eye. I would guess at about 185 degrees. By just holding the crank balancer up to the crank 180out, & looking straight in, you can see it won't go. Maybe Benz got smart in '84 & changed it on some. Paul.

There's alot of torque on that bolt. It's easy to remove with a breaker bar braced and a quick tap from the starter. Putting it back on is a bit of a work out.

Thanks to all for the great info and tips. I read the many previous post on Balancer's and went to the dealer for some preventive maintenance parts before I open it up. I was astounded at the price of the vibration damper plate! See PDF's for figure and quote (with p/n's).
