Can of "fix a flat"
box of tools
road flares
bottle of "Red Line Diesel additive"
Duct tape
some wire
some rope
shop rags

Both fuel filters?
Spare voltage regulator brushes
End of the injector return line, the one with the plug in the end
Spare glow plug relay fuse
Some cooking oil for emergency fuel
Spare belt(s)

Just remember, the more you have, the less you're likely to need it.

You've got a prefilter and a spin on filter wihtin a couple of inches of each other. You also must have a new O ring for the prefilter.

Unless you do a lot of driving in the desert southwest, then you would be better with plain water. (In case you become stranded and need to drink it.)

I like a large piece of cardboard folded once and under the other stuff. If you have to get underneath the car in small gravel, it is a lot more comfortable and helps preserve your clothes.
And although I never use them at home, one of those disposable plastic coveralls rolls up small and doubles for an extra layer of clothes should you break down in really cold weather.

Haven't you ever set up a solar still? That would be a way to make drinking water from the coolant/water mix. Just need to add plastic trash bags to the mix of things in the trunk.

Right now, "emergency items" that I have are some rubber vacuum tubing, golf tees (to temporarily plug vacuum lines going to troublesome elements), trunk mounted warning triangle, two inline fuel filters, coolant, power steering fluid, windsheild washer fluid, funnel, microfiber towels, kneepads in case I have to kneel on some rough ground while making a repair (yes, teens can have bad knees too) and a toolkit.

What I NEED is: a quart of ATF and motor oil, and perhaps some spare belts.

I also have AAA, which needs to be upgraded to AAA Plus if I plan to do more highway driving that takes me further from town.

Why carry all the extra stuff?

Ok, from reading this, it sounds like what we really need to carry with us, is a spare car. I'm new to the diesel arena. Why carry all these extra things?
