Sometimes you just gotta laugh...

OK, so Sunday evening I'm at the farm doing some work and it's getting dark. I finish up what I'm working on, load everything up and get in the wagon, fire up and start to head out.

No headlights. Bah...I pull the light switch out and it's apparent that a couple of the wiring connections are overheated and the back of the switch is badly melted. It's too late to try and fix so I spend the night at the farm and come into to town early the next morning sans headlights.

The wagon has the trailer on it so I leave her at home and take the SDL to the office. Fast forward 9 hours and now it's about 100°F and I'm getting into the SDL to go home only to discover that the igniton/steering lock has crapped out and now I cannot get the key to turn and start the engine.

After 20 minutes of diddling the key and steering wheel, I pull the instrument cluster and use a rubber-handled screwdriver to rap the lock assembly while trying to rotate the key. Guess what: it worked. After 5-6 firm wallops, the key turned and I started her up.

What a day!

Screw driver

Leo, was that a ball peen screw driver or a claw driver? I used to hear those adjustable wrenches referred to in the Navy as Crescent hammers. It's not only important to have the right tool. You have to know how to use it correctly, eh?

i found out today while removing the vac lines to the ARV and EGR that someone before me had plugged the rubber EGR line at the booster for the EGR... which ment me plugging the line closes to the EGR and then removing it did nothing since it was done before i did...

The fun just keeps on coming...

I just discovered that one of the tires on my pig cart trailer has a wart the size of my fist.

diesel related reply

Sunday night i was driving my diesel home from Temple. I get to my driveway and find my mailbox sitting on the ground. I punched the button on my Genie and the garage door would only come up halfway (one of the torsion springs broke I later found). Went into the house and some of the carpet was wet because the AC drain up in the attic had clogged up. So yesterday I called the AC tech to fix the drain, called the garage door repairman to replace the springs, then drove my diesel Golf to buy a new mailbox.

And here's why...

"On July 4, 2006, Mercury, the cosmic magician, turns retrograde in Leo, the sign of the Lion, sending communications, travel, appointments, mail and the www into a general snarlup! This awkward period begins a few days before the actual turning point (as Mercury slows) and lasts for three weeks or so, until July 29, when the Winged Messenger reaches his direct station. At this time he halts and begins his return to direct motion through the zodiac."

You SERIOUSLY lucked out! I wish I could say I had! I would change that baby out before it locks up forever with the key in the #1 position! ... 'cause then you WON'T be able to get the key-cylinder out of it and when that happens, as I'm sure you know, you are toast! ... and in for one HUGE nightmarish ordeal! When they start sticking/locking up like that it is only a matter of time before you are taking the cluster out, taking off the steering wheel, lowering the column, and getting out the ol' Dremel tool and diamond bits! I don't even want to think about doing that in 100* heat!
