Sign on Diesel Pump "Illegal to use this Fuel in 2007 Cars" Pl explain..

I saw this Sign on a Diesel Pump at the gas station this morning "Low Sulfur Fuel intended for Highway Use. Its Illegal to use this Fuel in 2007 Cars. May cause Engine Damage"

Can someone Pl explain this Sign? Does that mean 2007 + Diesel Cars will have a different Diesel Fuel? What about my 85 300D?
I won't be buying a 2007 car until 2020 at the earliest.

The newer diesel cars have catlysts sensitive to sulfur in LSD analogous to how lead in regular gas affected catalytic convertors in gassers.

Do a search on ULSD to research all the talk. There's a slight chance you MAY have some fuel leaks at seals that MAY shrink.

From Petro Canada's Website:

"How is diesel fuel classified?

Diesel fuel is usually classified as

Seasonal diesel fuel:Type B or Number 2 - the most commonly used diesel fuel.
Light diesel fuels: Type A or Number 1, for special applications.

Recently, diesel fuel has also been classified by sulphur content: low sulphur and regular sulphur diesel.

What is low sulphur diesel fuel?

Low sulphur diesel fuel (LSD) is fuel that contains less than 500 parts per million (0.05 wt per cent) sulphur. It is usually used for on-road applications. Since Jan. 1, 1998, all on-road diesel fuel in Canada must be LSD.

Low sulphur diesal fuel will contain less than 15 parts per million, as of Sept. 1, 2006, across Canada. "

So, in Canada, we have been using Number 2 Diesel (LSD - Low Sulphur Diesel) since Jan 1, 1998 - in fact, it's the only kind one can buy at Gas Stations. But come this September 1st. we will have only No.2 Diesel (ULSD- Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel ).

I expect that the refiners here will blend it with appropriate lubricity additives to prevent engine wear and seal shrinkage.

The sign you mentioned, is confusing to my mind as it refers to "LSD", but I think you guys can get a choice of two grades presently - Is this so?

Cars made in 2007 will not last until 2020, even MB's.

I agree with the statement of them not lasting...kinda said you pay for a diesel that should last you a very long time, but only last for 100k if your lucky...No thanx I will stick with older cars till there all gone...newer cars just can't hang, yeah they look pretty but they won't be around long

I noticed today that the biod pump does not have one of those stickers next to it.
Filled my 240D up today after commuting for a week. Used 10.8 gallons for 288 miles. That is with the a/c blowing ice cold r12. You have to adjust the idle up to keep it from shutting down when stopped at a light if the compressor is pulled in but it is without a doubt the best commuter (non interstate) car that I have ever owned.

I bet you really need some room to pull out in the traffic.

I travel hwy 41 between Macon and Warner Robins which runs parallel to I75. The traffic is so sparse that the slow acceleration is not an issue.
