I think I know the answer but can someone verify that Techron is ok for my '85 300CD? On the bottle it says that it is ok for diesels with "light-duty indirect injection" ...whatever that is.

Also, I have read that its best to use a fuel additive just before changing oil as the product may get into the oil. Anyone heard this warning?

Thanks,

Nic in SC

I used Techron on my old 240D with no adverse effects. But I did not feel it did as good a job as the Red Line and Lubro Moly products. I have also heard about running additives rigt before an oil change. I usually follow this rule because the theories behind it make sense to me.

thanks SW, I think I'll use additive just before oil change unless I see contrary info. I have also heard that Red Line is good stuff. Have no idea how to legitimately compare these products. I imagine they all do essentially same thing.

Try This...

Go to:

http://www.redlineoil.com

and

http://www.chevron.com

Compare the specs and manufacturer's claims.

Personally, I use Redline 85+ at every fill-up. Not only before an oil change. And my local Mercedes dealership recommends the use of Redline fuel additives.

Speaking of Redline, where can you buy this stuff. I remember a long while ago that you could order it online from Redline. However I recently went to their site and there is no mention of online ordering anymore. I have also heard this theory of putting a fuel system cleaner in about 1 tanks worth away from the next oil change. Today I bought a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner, but I was going to use it in my VW. I never thought about using it in my Benz. I looked at the bottle and it does say "Can be used with diesel fuel in light-duty indirect-injected diesel engines." I guess our diesels would be called "light-duty" versus the large trucks (semis). My mechanic said a good way to clean out your injectors would be to fill the main filter with injector cleaner and start her up.

MICHAEL!

Sorry for "shouting", but you've been a member here since 1999, and should know better than to send business to another supplier when this website is supported by products sold here online.

Does Eurasian Auto Parts contribute to the maintenance and operation of these forums? You might want to read this current thread from the Open Discussion Forum:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=15957

And, rickjordan, you can buy Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst and/or Redline 85+ right here on this very website.
