Jeep with a turbo diesel motor

I got it to start , and lots of people asked for a pic of it. There was a serious knocking sound coming from, what seemed to be the front of the motor, after it did start. Also there was alot of white smoke. any suggestions? I didn't drain the fuel from the tank (because I didn't expect it to start) I will try to drain it and put some fresh fuel in it.

Knock can come from bad injectors too..
The noise seeming to come from the front might indicate the vacuum pump or the crank pulley.

The crank pulley fits over two dowel pins and can sometimes hang up during instal and feel like it's all the way home.

White smoke is incomplete combustion diesel gases which should clear as the motor warms if all else is okay. Loud knock along with white smoke does point to bad fueling.

W/ the 617s I think you can get away w/ up to 10% rug.
I am first in line to buy that contraption once all the bugs get worked out and the new novelty has worn off.

Drain the fuel and put some fresh diesel in there. That gasoline is hard on diesels.

Congratulations.

You also can run it from a gas can under the hood for testing.

When the tranny guy who built the tranny told me the converter was a high stall I asked him what that was and he told me most diesels have a low stall because of the rpm/torque. I didn't put 2&2 together that the red line on the Jeep was the same as the red line on the Mercedes. I hope it will work better with 4.10 gears instead of the 3.07 that is in it now.

I haven't noticed the exhaust smell at all with the soft top on. I haven't had the top off yet. I plan to do 3in or 3 1/2 exhaust from the turbo back, maybe turn it down just before the rear axle. The exhaust ends right next to the transfer case now and no smell.

I am not sure about the laws in your state as far as registration of a previous gas now diesel, but here in TX I just needed to show inspection papers (safety only). I love pulling up and not have ing to pay for emissons testing.

I dont have a jeep but I like my converted off-road toy.
