'77 240D loses low speed power when weather is hot

Yea, I know that a 240D with an automatic IS a slug but..... When the outside weather gets hot, it will barely get out of its own way from idle to about 1000rpm.

I have changed BOTH fuel filters.
I have the altitude compensator backed off all the way
The fuel strainer in the tank is clean
It gets FULL throttle
I don't believe the valves are tight

It sometimes wants to go from a stop but then loses a little power. Once it starts to rev up, it runs great all the way to 80. I can climb grades without power loss.
Can the primary fuel pump be going bad?
Leaving a signal lights gets interesting, I push it to the floor to get it to start in first but sometimes it still creeps until it gets rpms up a little.

Any suggestions????
