'87 300TD w/Saggy Seats - Need Tips ?

With 250K miles, the front seats of my 1987 300TD are very soft, although the MB-Tex is generally in excellent condition, appearance wise.

I'm sure others here have addressed this problem...so I'd like some tips.... or links to other threads about firming up the seats.

Please comment on this idea >>>>>>

I've seen a couple of cars in the wrecking yards with good firm seats....wrong color.. Sometimes my local self service yards have a "half price" day and the seats can be purcahsed inexpensively......so I'm wondering if would make sense to consider getting two nice firm fronts......????? ..and swapping my MB-Tex covers onto them. Is it possible .....?? ...and how much of a job it would be to swap.

Also, are the electrics usually swappable ("plug and play") between all the W124 chassis front seats...up through the 90's models?.

Warren C.

Pool noodles do infact work well, but don't overdo. I pumped up our front seats so much I couldn't get my legs under the wheel.

When I lived in Socal the local mbz indy gave me the address of a local upholstery shop that rewelded my springs and installed new foam, then reinstalled the seat cover,it was about 250 dollars, and it was worth every penny,Johnny (79 300d)

I cut 1" long sleeves out of 1/4" copper water line (the stuff they sell for refrigerators). Slide it over one side of a broken spring, push the spring together, and slide the sleeve over the break. Crimp with pliers.

I'm 190lbs and the seat on my daily driver w201 has held up for more than a year so far with that fix.

Also, swapping seat 'skins' is not hard once the seats are removed from the car and disassembled.

The cushion skins can be replaced with the seat in the car in a 126. Maybe a 124 is tighter. I imagine same can be done with the back with the headrest off but I haven't done it.
