Freeze 12

I just called a local carrier of Freeze 12, and they informed me that you now have to have a license to buy it.

Anyone heard of this?

Thanks!

It would seem that they mistook what you said for r12.

That's what I thought, so I questioned them on that. They said the got notice from the EPA in July, so all Freeze 12 cans a behind the counter like the R12.

Freeze12 is a mix of r134 and some other ozone burning chemical. Thanks for reminding me, I need to buy a case.

This has been known for at least a couple years but many people ignore it. Fines are high for violations.

The test (open book) is so easy to pass and the certification is so cheap that there is no excuse to not have one. If you can't be bothered you probably shouldn't be messing with ac anyway.

The other blended component of Freeze12, R142B or something like that, is a cfc, therefore you need the 609 cert to buy it.
I'm running Freeze12 in my wagon, and it is no better than R134A. Matter of fact, I think R134A might get a tad colder. Neither work well when you are in stop and go traffic.
A parallel flow condenser is the way to go.......

Had the acid test of the SD's Freeze-12 system yesterday. 99°F. in the midday sun.........2 1/2 hour drive back to Long Island. Compressor remained engaged and blower remained at level four for the entire ride. Cabin temperature never made it down to the dial setting.........21°C..........but........I was comfortable..........probably got the interior down to 75° or so.

The system has no chance in slow moving traffic........the temperature gauge immediately heads for 100°C. and the a/c vent temperatures climb dramatically............I'd never have Freeze-12 down in Texas..........but it works great when temps. are 90°F. or below.

I'm replacing my condenser soon....where's a source for " a parallel flow condenser"....??

Why is it an improvement?

Where can I go for info?

I just sent off for the test and study kit. I figure the may make 134 obtainable by license only as well.

I have Freeze 12 running in my 89 Nissan P/U. Even in this 105 degree heat, it cools really well. Of course tinted windows and a smaller passenger area helps out a lot.

You can research parallel flow condensers on this forum, or at ackits.com

I've been running r134a in all my old cars (two 126 300SDs and a 280zx). With a new reciever/drier and a really strong (28inHg @ 1100ft above sea level) evacuation, my ac is really cold and I can never leave it on full blast. I also didn't weigh it in, but rather tested it for pressure @ temperature. You need a full manifold set to do that with high and low side gauges.

Warren,

1.)http://www.acsource.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=254

http://www.ackits.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Parallel

2.)more unimpeded refrigerant flow, ergo, more heat dissipation, lower high side pressure.

3.) CALL either of the above. They know about MB A/C and parallel flow condensors.
