Angry How Much Per Gallon???

Found out that Colorado has a shortage of Diesel due to the new EPA guidelines for low sulphur (or that's what they are telling us) Truckers are being held to 60 gallons per fill up max and prices run from $3.29 - $3.59/gallon. Don't know when this will get better. Thanks for letting me vent.

Why Colorado? We just got back from a six week roadtrip from Denver to DC and NYC and paid as little as $2.76. Prices jumped at the CO border although they were a little high in western KS.

While I understand the law of supply and demand, I can never get past the idea of why diesel cost more than gasoline when it is so far less refined (pulled green so to speak in the refining process). For gosh sakes, with millions of truckes on the road..the demand is certainly there. Is it that the refineries are not willing to sacrifice gasoline production to supply diesel demand?

Yes, the demand is there. However the demand for gasoline is stronger. What do you expect them to do? You have 1 barrel of oil. We can make more gasoline or more diesel. Diesel is cracked further to make gasoline. Somebody is going to have to take a bite. Although both my primary vehicles are diesel and my fun toy is gas, I understand that if gas prices go up, more people are going to scream. So, what would you do? Displease 500 people or 5000? Diesel is less refined but because it is further cracked to make gas, the quantities are now less. Less quantities = higher price.

Well, since the tree huggers want those things in place, we got it. Now there will always be problems introducing a new product especially with a timeline for introdction.

Thumbs down Oil Company BS- BP shuts down Alaskan field; Oil spikes $1

Just read the article on the Alaskan oil field shutdown. How convienent that they are shutting down oil production for maintenance on a pipeline while we have the problems in the middle east. All I have to say is watch Syriana and it's all laid out. Sorry to start a political discussion on the forum.

Dunno. We have been having problems in the ME for a long time so I doubt it is related. However, if something goes wrong and it spills, would you give BP immunity from legal issues?

We have supply problems? A huge Suncor refinery is only a few miles from downtown.

I don't think that has to do with anything. If everybody wants it today, refinery or no, we are going to have an issue since refineries are running at over 100% capacity

Is $3.29 expensive? That's what it is at my local station in SoCal...

Just got back from rural Kentucky/Tennessee...it was around $2.85. But then again, regular unleaded was only around $2.90.
