Got a Garrett? Just get a manual boost controller

I was thinking about adjusting the springs and it didn't look all that fun. Plus, if I wanted to change it, it would be the same hassle again. So I just got a manual boost controller (ball and srping) off of ebay for less than $20 to my door. I had to get some reducers and new line to make it fit onto the barbed ends of the MBC. That was less than five bucks. Cut the line, splice it all together, drive and adjust. It's that easy.

I was at about 8.5 PSI before. I'm running about 13 now according to my fuel pressure gauge newly adapted as a boost gauge duct taped to my windshield. My 0-60 dropped from about 20 seconds to about 16.5 seconds, give or take a couple tenths. I was hoping for it to hit 15 seconds, but I can deal. I thought it was good enough at 20 really.

I just really like the fact that I can just reach in there, loosen a nut, turn a dial, and boost is adjusted. I really don't think I'll be adjusting it too much, but it's nice to know it'll take 30 seconds if I want.

Now that my cooling issue is under control now, I will be looking into boost pressure. But I have a KKK, so I shall be periodically soaking my adjustment with PB Blaster before my boost gauge gets hooked up.

I need to adjust mine too, according to my boost gauge I only run about 9-10psi under max load....

I'm going to see if I can adjust it. Not sure which turbo is on my engine...have never checked.

I thought about it, but I like the way the interior looks as it is. Hence the temporary duct taped quage.

Oh yeah, those 0-60 times are on about B75.

I opted for a boost controller because I couldn't see the circular retaining ring that was holding the cover on. There was too much oil and crap in the way. I had my turbo out of my wrecked car the other day and was messing with it and I finally figured out where that ring was and how to get it out. I've already got the boost controller on the '84 and I've got it set to 13-14psi depending on the load. If I ever add an intercooler and up the fuel I'll probably go back to using the stock wastegate because at 14psi, my boost controller is nearly maxed out.
