Get real, they bought the car and its theirs to do whatever they want with. Its death was at least interesting. It would have been driven to death anyway by some hippy who couldnt give a rat's ass about maintenance anyway. It's a mass produced car too, not like its anything unique.

I guess it stinks they did that but I think that the car was Adam's. I say that because on one episode they were playing with magnets (I think the one where they had to do the hollywood robberies) and they got Adam's keys and you could clearly see an old mercedes key. So I wouldn't be very suprised if it was his car and it just ran out of juice.
I'd have to agree I'd rather see the car killed this way than by someone who just runs it into the ground with no maintenece or general care. Sad I'm sure but go visit a California junkyard and look at all the perfectly good Mercedes that have been picked apart. Seems like 80% or more are fine and just need a little work. That depresses me much more than 1 car on TV.

Yeah, it's sad that another one bites the dust, blah, blah, blah. At the least it gets another 15 minutes of fame and spreads the image of how durable the Mercedes cars can be.
In my opinion- They own it, it's being used for something semi-scientific, and we get to hear the roar of an OM617 on national TV! And that's fine by me. |

Oh god, I just had this eerie feeling of the future where there are only a handful of W124s, W201s, W126s, and W123s left....
Maybe I should buy like 5 300Es,dismantle them, and store all the parts in a storage bay for the future? All good things come to an end!!!

And, like the last time, they all know how to properly pronounce Diesel. (dēzəl)
What they needed to make the woofer last was some guides to keep it's vertical movement stable. Notice in the slo-mo that it twisted side-to-side as the RPM's went up, tearing the rubber and wood. |

I agree the car is theirs and they have the right to do what ever they want with it, however it was the wrong choice for the myth they wanted to bust. It was a waste.

The parts are close to worthless. I parted out a car once, whats a decent dash worth $50-$100? Not worth the effort to extract unless you have a source for it.
It went out in a blaze of glory, besides for all we know it had a weak trans or a weak cylinder was was heading to the crusher already.

I saw that!!! That was sooooooo cool! He would slow down to 70 they would catch up then he would get going 130-140 again. They tried to knock him off the road and THEY slid off the road. MMM Mercedes

Lighten UP!
My god people, it's a CAR, not a basket of kittens.
These cars get junked every day. Perfectly good 617's go the crusher here all the time because the body is shot. I was going to post the pictures of the killer swap buggy we made from a 240D 4-spd manual. But, I'm now thinking many won't be able to stand to see the sight of a roof-cut-off, mud tires/wheels welded on, pvc snorkle air intake and exhaust stack where the back seat used to be, "precious Mercedes Diesel".
