Buying a Diesel Benz!

OK. my Dad gave me the 300SD I drive after pronouncing it dead... well 4 years later, my step mom comes to my dad, "I would like a sedan, what do you think of the BMW 5-Series?"
my dad replys, "why a BMW?"
Step mom, "I would like a german car."
Dad, "Let me call Nik"
so my dad calls me... like i would have any thing to say to him other then "Mercedes Diesel"
so after answering 3 questions with the words "Mercedes Diesel" my dad said, "yeah well thats what i want, I miss the Mercedes, can you find me a newer diesel that is smaller then yours?"

so... with all that said, what should I find for my dad? hes on a budget (just bought my step mom a 4 runner 3 years ago, new from the dealer), he also wants a new(er) car. so a 82 300D is out.
I was thinking about a 92-95 124. I don't know alot about the engine options, but i know my dad wants it to be Turboed, and if possable a manual transmission.

well according to my step mom a 1995 E300 Diesel with 210,000 miles for $9,000 is over priced, to old, and way to many miles for her.
I told my dad to forget about finding her a car if that is what she is thinking.
I told him to just buy her a used honda.

NOT to put down Munich's cars but...Mom once worked with a group of women who drove Hondas (3 of 5 of them.) They thought mom's 4 yr. old 328is with 65k miles was on it's last leg because it wasn't a Honda. She sold it to a helicopter mechanic when it had 180k on it.

Short answer: if a Honda makes her happy, your dad should get her one.

If you want a turbo engine in a smaller body than a SD/SDL and 95 is too old, a 98-99 E300 is the only choice.

I'll be the odd one out. What about say a 2000-03 or whenever they changed the body style, 540I? Its a very cool car. So I would incurage the 5 series train of thought, and then hope to drive it once in awhile.

Any interest in the stick? Some women like them some don't, but a 540I black/black with a 6spd and 19in M wheels is a sexy thing.

I have come to the conclusion based on my observations is that most women just turn the key and want it to go. (notice I said most not all!) At least my mom, who is currantly car shopping would buy a Camry over any diesel MB.
