another engine rebuild underway
This one is a '83 240D with 270k miles. The car had sat up for about a year prior to me purchasing it and the amount of sludge in the engine is the most I have ever seen. My plans are to re-sleeve it and install new pistons. Nothing worn excessively other than the typical wear items. It was using alot of oil so I figured I would go through it while I had the time. The cylinders have a mirror like finish to them.

Where are you getting your parts? I have a 300td and a parts car.
I may get around to rebuilding it someday. Thanks George |

As a matter of course I have just started including a new oil pump and vacuum pump in the rebuilds.

I was thinking along the same lines when I do my 603. I don't need either to go out, ruining a rebuild.

I would like to know a reliable source for the liner/piston/ring
rod/crank bearings. I am doing a 300D and rather than bore would prefer liners. My pistons appear scored (probably some low oil, overheating, infrequent oil changes). Have decided to replace them. I have not checked the crank journals yet but expect to find them in spec and not needing to be turned. Bearings looked great.
