Best recent $200 ever spent! DIY 'er- Master Tech. Prior owner service and repair history: primary and secondary fuel filters replaced with in last year. Valve adjustment. Oil leaks repaired 3,000 mile interval oil change service(of course). Ran Cetane boost Fuel additive in fuel tank. There are probably a few other things they had done and forgot.
What I did:Road test. Performed visual inspection. Check vacuum with gauge at vacuum control and multiple hoses-OK. Disconnected EGR vacuum line and plugged hose. Test drove vehicle. No change. Reconnected EGR vaccum. Adjusted ALDA -road test-a little better, but not good enough. Check ALDA Lines. Plugged. Removed ALDA line banjo bolt at back of intake.
Found Banjo bolt holes completely plugged with carbon. Cleaned out orifices with wire paper clip and brake clean. Clean clear ALDA line from back of Intake manifold at banjo bolt to overboost solenoid mounted on inner fender well(after disconnecting it at solenoid). Road test. Vehicle performs much better. More power. Transmission shifts smoother. Had to adjust idle speed at injector pump for the idle issues.
A/C compressor is extremely noisy when engaged. Next project.
I never liked diesels, but I love my Mercedes. Contemplating veggie conversion. Look out Mickey D's!
