603 Delivery Valves Replaced, no leaks
I replaced the delivery valve seals (got 'em here from FastLane) on my '87 300SDL. All went well! All dry now. They were leaking so bad that fuel was dripping at a pretty good rate and air would enter the system and not restart overnight.
I just replaced the seals, not the crush washers, and I niether dropped or lost any springs.(I appreciate the others who warned to be carefull, you just have to be thinking about them when you lift off the valves) I removed the fuel lines from both the valves and injectors and moved the away slightly while I worked atop the pump. I then removed all the hold-down clamps on the dist. valves, noteing the way they overlaped each other. Then cleaned the area with brake cleaner. Then used the special socket to fully loosen one dist valve. Then carefully lifted it up and away, leaving the spring standing upright. Removed the old seal and replaced with new. Then carefully put the valve back over the spring and finger-started screwing it in. Then torqued 30nm, loosened, torqued 30nm, then added 2nm and torqued again (only loosening once). Repeated for each valve. Replaced the hold downs, then the fuel lines, bled the air at the injectors before tightening at the injectors. Then cranked a little while to start, jumping the battery off my truck so as not to discharge too much. No leaks, and the engine sounds better to boot. We'll see how long she goes leak free......
