mystery benz

hello. i saw a mercedes in a ladys front yard and stopped to ask if it was for sale. the car looked like a 190d but did not have any badges on its trunk. the lady said it was her daughters and it was gas powered and a 1992 model. is this car a 300E? or a 190E? how can i tell? she also said it was a special edition as it had bucket seats in the back? i dont know what thats all about, as i did not notice them but i did see a clean interior and a pretty straight body. it had 187 thousand on it. any idea what this might be worth?

The 190 has long flat tail lights, the 300E has tall tail lights cut at an angle.

Look through the windshield and check the VIN. A 190 VIN starts with WDBD, a 300E VIN starts with WDBE.

A 190 has horizontal strakes where the c-pillar meets the beltline. A 300E has a plain trim piece.

190 trunk button is right below the star. 300E trunk button is below the license plate.

Most or all 300Es have headlight wipers. I don't think any US 190 has headlight wipers.

I think there was a sportline option that came with rear bucket seats. I don't recall it was available as early as 92.

whichever it is 190 or 300E it must be a sportline with it having bucket seats in the back.

the one with the big spoiler is the EVO III the others could be IIRC the EVO II and EVO I.. i like the EVO III

also if it is a 190E the ones with the 2.3 16v engines did have wipers on the lights

The Evo's actualy needed them to keep them planted around a track. Those are working rear spoilers, therefor they are cool.

Next time you see it get the vin and post it.

Agreed. Fins are alright when they are actually serving a purpose, not bolted onto the back of a front wheel drive honda.
