I'm stuck here. Won't budge at all! 8 screws off, with the very front plate + 2 screws off, and it's stuck. Tried "Blaster" plus a large wrench, but it won't come off. Even thought of taking if off at the block, but it looks like those hex bolts might be easily stripped.

Timing Device End Play......
Stevo above stated:
"Be sure to check the end play on the timing device while the vp is off. I had almost 2.5 MMs, which took out the vp. I dont know what its spoz too be, less than 1mm I would think." Is the timing device the cam follower???? Is it side to side play or longitudinal play????

The timing device is the gear with the rollercoaster cam on it. Excessive play (moves in and out) is a result of a worn thrust bearing and will trash the vacuum pump.

I couldn't find parts when needing a vacuum pump for the 84SD. Also, there were no pumps available from anyone but Mercedes. Rebuild kits NLA, Piersburg pumps NLA. Save your core in case you can use it to build the next one.
