If left bad long enough, yes. The flexpipe will absorb small movements, but eventually the large up-down movements will find a weak point....

don't know about engine mounts, but my 4 speed manual trans dropped a couple of mounting bolts. this caused the exhaust pipe to break under the passanger seat.

thats what keeps happening to mine, it keeps breaking in the same spot right were the exaust system connects to the other pipe that goes up to the headers. how did u know it was the mounting bolts you were missing?

when I took to the shop to fix the exaust, the mechanic notice that the engine 'rolled' to much, and checked the bolts for the trans. missing.

I purchased my 240d from a IDY, who claimed to put in a used 240d and also rebuilt the clucht, trans, etc. The mechanic after he pulled the car into the bay to fix, looked for the bolts holding the trans, and a couple were missing. He told me that whoever finised hooking up the engine, trans, must not have tighten the bolts very tight.

anyway he found some bolts (case harden steel) put them in and also repaired the exaust. this was over 10,000 miles ago, and everything is fine.
